I am delighted to greet you as the new dean of the School of Information and Library Science. Through a lifelong career in information and library science, I have followed the activities of the school for years and been impressed with the work and accomplishments of the faculty, researchers, students and alumni. I am honored to be joining such a prestigious group of colleagues! In the months ahead I look forward to meeting even more of our alumni and supporters. SILS is what it is today in large part because of your support. You have created a legacy of achievement that we are excited about building on and extending — and we will need your involvement and assistance to do so.
This is an interesting time for all of us in information and library science, and an especially exciting time for our school. The opportunities are tremendous, especially with such a wonderful foundation and the ongoing support of all of you.
Having worked at and with many of SILS' peer institutions, it is an honor to now be leading the school that I have so long respected. I look forward to working with you to move the school forward to its next phase of impact and success.
Sincerely,
Dr. José-Marie Griffiths
Dean and Professor
