On Sunday, Dec. 18th, the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) will conduct its Fall commencement ceremony and celebration for students who have completed their degree requirements.
Ceremony
The SILS ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room of the Louis Round Wilson Library. All members of the SILS community, and especially all graduating students and any friends and family they'd like to have join them, are invited to attend.
Guest Speaker
John Ulmschneider, University Librarian, Professor and SILS alumnus, of the Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries is the guest speaker for the commencement ceremony.
Students: Arrive in the lobby of Wilson Library no later than 9:15 a.m.
Faculty: Assemble in the lobby of the Wilson Library at 9:30 a.m.
Guests: Proceed directly to the Wilson Library and be seated prior to the beginning of the ceremony.
Students and Faculty: A group photo will be taken on the steps of the Wilson Library immediately following the ceremony.
Reception
A reception will follow the ceremony in the lobby of the Wilson Library.
Regalia
The school has a small number of caps, gowns and hoods available from previous commencement ceremonies that may be borrowed. Contact the SILS Dean's Office at 919-962-8366 beginning Thursday, Dec. 1st if you would like to borrow any of these items.

You may wish to consider donating your regalia to SILS after the reception for future ceremonies.
Parking
There is parking at the Morehead Planetarium lot on Franklin St. as well as various locations on the UNC campus not marked as 24 hour reserved spaces.
University Commencement Activities
SILS students are encouraged to participate in the University ceremony, which will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18th, in the Dean E. Smith Center. The Fall commencement speaker is Dr. Barbara Fredrickson, Kenan Distinguished Professor of Psychology and director of UNC's Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Lab.
