Laptops
For personal laptop use, "docking stations" are availalbe at three desks in room 303. Laptop users must first download and install the Vantec Laptop Docking Station software. A CD with this software is also available in room 303 near the printer. Run the setup.exe and follow the instructions.
For more detailed installation instructions please see the Vantec Docking Station User Manual located online or near the room 303 printer. An Apple Mac version is not available at this time. However, Mac users may simply plug their laptop video directly into the available desktop VGA cable.
Once the Vantec software is installed, reboot the laptop and connect the USB cable from the Docking Station to your laptop. In your display properties select the display on the desk as the primary display.
Printing from a Windows Laptop
Since personal laptops are not part of the campus domain, there are extra steps required to print to the networked printers. To view the available print queues, go to the START button and select RUN (or the search field) and type in \\sils-pelican.ad.unc.edu and click OK. When you are prompted for your login credentials, use this format for the username: "ad\onyen" (no quotes) and supply your UNC onyen password.
Next click to hightlight the printer you wish to add. Right-click on that printer and choose "Connect". Click "yes" to install the print driver.
*** NOTE *** This printer may become unavailable after your UNC onyen password expires (every 90 days). To remedy this, browse the print server again to enter your new onyen password. Go to the START button and select RUN. Type in \\sils-pelican.ad.unc.edu and click OK and enter your credentials again as described above.
