Go to the following website: http://www.pharos.com/Support/MAC/Index.html and click on the Popup.dmg file in the center of the table. Save the file to your Desktop. Double click on the Popup.dmg icon on your Desktop. Double click on the Popup.pkg file.

The following dialog will appear. Select Continue in the Introduction and the Read Me boxes.

Select Continue in the Select a Destination dialog box.

Select Install or Upgrade in the Installation Type box.

When the Authenticate box pops up, you will have to enter the local administrator name and password.

Finally, select Close.

The Popup Setup Assistant dialog box (below) should automatically open. In the server address field, type auxprint2.unc1card.unc.edu . The Server Port and Server Timeout(s) fields should remain the default values. Select Continue .

Leave the Client Port field default. The number should be 28212 . Hit Continue on several screens until Done is an option, and then choose that.

Now you will add a local printer. Select System Preferences from the Dock and go to Print & Fax. Click on the + button.

Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and click More Printers.

From the drop down menu, select advanced. From the Device drop down menu, select Pharos Print Server .

In the Device Name field, enter any name preference you want. In the Device URI field, enter the following:

popup://auxprint2.unc1card.unc.edu:515/silsque1

Next select Printer Model → Select a Driver to Use → Generic PCL Laser Printer, 1.3.

Click Add. To enable double-sided printing, check Duplexer.

The new printer will now show up in the list of printers. To print to the new queue, select it from the printer popup button in the print dialog of any application.

There are some cases where popup will not work with these settings. If you get a pharos error message after following the previous steps, there is an alternate way to add the local printer.

Just like above, select System Preferences from the Dock and go to Print & Fax. Click on the + button.

Here is where the processes diverge. Select IP Printer at the top of the dialog box. In Protocol, select Line Printer Daemon - LPD . In Address, enter auxprint2.unc1card.unc.edu and in Queue enter silsque1 . Enter an appropriate name and location (suggested SILS Printer and SILS Lab). Select HP at Print Using: and scroll down to select Generic PCL Laser Printer, 1.3 . Select Add. To enable double-sided printing, check Duplexer.

Note that the popup asking for information will not occur when you try to print to the SILS Printer. This version of installing the popup printer will FILL IN THE INFORMATION for you. Your computer's user name will be the Name associated with the print job, and the name of the file itself will be added as the Job Name.
