Only students, faculty and staff of the School of Information and Library Science may check out equipment from the SILS ITS lab.
Note that paper manuals are available for checkout along with the equipment itself.
Laptops
The lab has four laptops available for checkout: three for students, and one for faculty / staff / teaching fellows. Laptops come in a backpack that includes an Ethernet cable, a mouse, a battery, a power cord, a phone line, a CD-ROM drive and a wireless card. The lab also has one Nokia N800 Internet Tablet available for checkout.
SILS Students
- Students can check out laptops for eight hours or until 15 minutes before the lab closes for the day, whichever comes first.
- Users must sign a responsibility form and use their One Card for checkout.
- Laptops are for in-house use only (Manning Hall).
SILS Faculty/Staff/Teaching Fellows
- Faculty, staff and teaching fellows can check out laptops for variable periods of time at the discretion of SILS lab staff.
- Users must sign a responsibility form and use their One Card for checkout.
Multimedia Equipment
The lab has 4 digital still cameras (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, Sony Mavicas MVC-CD300, Sony DSC-F717), 2 camcorders (Sony CCD-TRV68 Hi8, Canon GL2 Digital Video), 2 GPS Units (Sony GPS-CS1KA), 1 Wireless Presenter (Kensington Wireless Presenter), and 1 voice recorder (Olympus DS2000) for SILS students, faculty and staff to check out.
- SILS faculty, staff, masters and Ph.D. students may check out multimedia equipment overnight and up to 24 hours. If the 24-hour period is not sufficient, members of the SILS community have a one-time option to renew the item; however, the user must come back in to the checkout desk to do this.
- ILS minors, majors and people who are taking a SILS class can check out equipment for a maximum of eight hours or until the lab closes, whichever comes first.
