Dr. Deborah Barreau elected director-at-large of ASIS&T

Photo of Deborah BarreauDr. Deborah Barreau, associate professor, was elected director-at-large for the American Society of Information Science and Technolgy (ASIS&T). She joins another director-at-large, Dr. Barbara Wildemuth, SILS professor, who was elected in 2007 for the three-year appointment.

Barreau is part of the ASIS&T Board that governs the organization of approximately 4000 information science and library professionals in more than 50 countries worldwide. The organization’s mission is to “advance the information sciences and related applications of information technology by providing focus, opportunity and support to information professionals and organizations.”

Barreau has been an active member of ASIS&T since 1988 serving or participating on several committees and organizing sessions such as:

  • ASIS&T Leadership Committee, 2002-2008
  • Webmaster for SIG-MGT, 2005-2008
  • Chair-elect for SIG-DL, 2006-2007
  • Chair, Outstanding Information Science Teacher Jury, 2007
  • Special Interest Group(s): HCI, USE, DL, MGT
  • And many more. . .

Barreau has taught at SILS since 1997. She received her MSLS from SILS and her Ph.D. in Library and Information Services from University of Maryland at College Park. She is a two time winner of SILS Outstanding Teacher of the Year award, most recently receiving the award in spring 2008.
