SILS commencement Dec. 17
On Friday, Dec. 17, the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) will conduct its winter commencement ceremony and celebration for those students who have completed their degree requirements in December 2004. This page contains all the information you will need for scheduling, photography, regalia and more.
Ceremony
The SILS ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Pleasants Family Room of Wilson Library. All members of the SILS community, but especially all graduating students and any friends and family they'd like to have join them, are invited to the ceremony.
Students: Arrive at the second floor of Wilson Library no later than 9:15 a.m.
Faculty: Assemble in the lobby at 9:30 a.m.
Guests: Proceed directly to Wilson and be seated before the beginning of the ceremony.
A group photograph will be taken immediately after the ceremony on the steps of Wilson.

Commencement Speaker
Susan Tarr, executive director of
the Federal Library and Information Center Committee (FLICC) at the Library of Congress, has been selected to speak at commencement.
Reception
A reception sponsored by the SILS Alumni Association will immediately follow the ceremony in the lobby of Wilson Library.
Regalia
The school has a small number of caps, gowns and hoods available from previous commencement ceremonies that may be borrowed. Contact Lara Bailey (919-962-0208) in the SILS office beginning Dec. 6 if you would like to borrow any of these items.
Regalia will be on sale at Student Stores from Dec. 10 through Dec. 19. No advance ordering is needed.
Undergraduate regalia: $34.99
Master's: $49.99
Doctoral: $65.99
Please consider donating your regalia to SILS after the reception.
Parking
We suggest parking in the Morehead Planetarium Lot on Franklin St. or the Swain Lot at the corner of S. Columbia and Cameron (accessible from Cameron). Rates are $1.00 per hour. See map for details.
University Commencement Activities
SILS students are encouraged to participate in the university ceremony, which will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, in the Dean E. Smith Center. For details, please check UNC's Commencement Web site.
