SILS to host first NHPRC fellowships symposium

Nov. 3, 2004 — SILS will host the first National Historical Publications and Records Commission Electronic Records Research Fellowships Symposium on November 19.

This small grant program awards four $15,000 grants each year to archivists and records professionals who wish to conduct electronic records research and explore related issues. The next nationwide call for proposals closes June 15, 2005.

Dr. Kenneth Thibodeau, director of the Electronic Records Archives Program at the National Archives and Records Administration, will give the keynote address this year.

Along with a number of other well-known archival researchers, symposium organizer Dr. Helen Tibbo will present a paper on an electronic records project in the morning. In the afternoon, the focus will shift to the fellowship recipients who will discuss their research ideas with symposium participants. Tibbo, co-principal investigator for the fellowship grant program with Dr. Paul Conway from Duke University, says that this type of grant program is essential to the implementation of electronic records systems within the nation's archives.

The symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Pleasants Family Room at Wilson Library. The symposium is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided.

Registration is required. Click here for more information about the symposium and to register.
