Save the Date and Celebrate with SILS!
July 12, 2006 - The School of Information and Library Science will launch its 75th anniversary on Monday, September 18, 2006 with the theme, “illuminating the past, imagining the future” as the school celebrates its many accomplishments and looks toward new and exciting opportunities. The launch will take place at 2 p.m. in Memorial Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A reception will follow.
You won't want to miss the launch ceremony on September 18th which will feature musical entertainment, words from university and state officials, a short video on the history of the school and presentations from impressive special guests.
Expect presentations by:
- Michael Ruettgers, Retired Chair and Senior Advisor, EMC Corporation.
- Deanna Marcum, Associate Librarian for Library Services, Library of Congress
- A tribute to Dr. Louis Round Wilson by Dr. Robert Martin (Ph.D. '88) Professor, Texas Women's University School of Library and Information Science
Look for a very special guest who is expected to attend the celebration!
On Thursday, September 21, join us for a series of student events including poster sessions, several panel discussions, a demographic overview and a happy hour at the Carolina Brewery.
The Adventures in Ideas Symposium: “Censorship, Privacy, National Security & Other Dilemmas of the Information Age” will be presented on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday morning, September 22-23. Topics and speakers include:
