Francis Marion University dean and SILS alumnus to retire

June 3, 2008—SILS alumnus, H. Paul Dove, Jr., will retire June 30 after 33 years with Francis Marion University (FMU) Rogers Library, serving the last 25 years as its director/dean. Prior to joining FMU in 1975, he held positions at Erskine College, Coastal Carolina, the University of South Carolina and the University of North Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree from Erskine College and master’s degrees from USC and UNC.

A founding co-chair of PASCAL, the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries, he also served terms as treasurer, vice president and president of the South Carolina Library Association. He served throughout the southern United States on 32 Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation visiting committees and taught University Life 100 courses at FMU. Dove has two children and six grandchildren.

His retirement plans include seeing the county from the saddle of his black cherry 2005 Harley-Davidson FLHTI Electra Glide touring bike.
