Michael Penny wins staff excellence award

Oct. 28, 2009 - Michael Penny, departmental assistant, has received the 2009 SILS Staff Excellence Award.

Penny was selected for his excellence, commitment, teamwork and outstanding service to the School. One of his nominators said, “Michael is always willing to help, no matter how large or small the task. He treats everyone with respect, has a great sense of humor and has made being in or visiting the SILS office a pleasure.” Another nominator said, “He is very dependable and will go out of his way to help a student, faculty member or staff member.”

Michael assists the office with a myriad of tasks and was especially helpful in planning logistics for the 2009 iConference, the 2009 DigCCurr Conference as well as assisting with the international program, all hosted by SILS. He also stepped in when there was a need for an executive assistant to the dean.

The presentation by Dr. Evelyn Daniel, associate dean of academic affairs, was held during the SILS Appreciation Day activities in the Administrative Offices of Manning Hall on October 28 with fellow staff members and faculty present.

Michael received a framed certificate, $500 and three additional paid days of leave. His name will also be submitted for the Chancellor’s Award next spring.
