SILS faculty and staff join University Day procession
Oct. 2009 - On Monday, Oct. 12, SILS faculty took part in the University’s 216th birthday celebration—which included an 11 a.m. address by Governor Perdue in Memorial Hall. Dressed in full regalia for the University Day celebration, the faculty were joined in their procession by SILS staff members Stephanie Peterson and Michael Penny, who also took part in the festivities.
University Day, which is set aside annually in order to celebrate the long, storied history of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, provided the SILS faculty and staff a chance to join other faculty members and staff across campus in celebrating the rich tradition of academic and athletic excellence the Carolina blue represents.
One of the oldest traditions of any publicly-funded university in the United States, UNC at Chapel Hill’s University Day commemorates the laying of the cornerstone of Old East, the nation’s first state university building, and the beginning of American public higher education.
The University's General Alumni Association shared a slide presentation, titled, "Carolina - Priceless Gem" that highlighted the University's points of pride. SILS is included as the number one school ranked by U.S. News and World Report.
