A library science student of the UNC at Chapel Hill School of Information
and Library Science (SILS) was one of five award winners nationally to
win a scholarship to attend the North American Serials Interest Group
(NASIG) annual conference in Portland held in June.
Rebecca Soltys Jones, who will graduate with a Master of Science in Library
Science degree in December 2003, was selected from the quality of an application
that explained her academic and professional career goals. Jones intends
to eventually become a serials librarian in an academic library. In the
meantime, she recently started in a circulation position at Poynter Memorial
Library at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg.
Established in 1985, NASIG is an independent organization that promotes
communication and sharing of ideas among all members of the serials information
chain - anyone working with or concerned about serials. Through the granting
of the awards, NASIG desires to encourage participation in this information
chain by students who are interested in pursuing some aspect of serials
work upon completion of their professional degrees.
