Humanities Computing Group
invites participation

What is Humanities Computing? How does it differ from straight knowledge representation? Is it an academic discipline? Is it useful to think of Humanities Computing as "applied humanities research?" How does one become a "computing humanist?"

If you are interested in these questions, or would like to explore the limits and meanings of humanities computing in greater detail, please consider joining the Humanities Computing reading group. This group is open to all students, staff, instructors and faculty at UNC at Chapel Hill.

Because of the progressive nature of Humanities Computing, the groupwill primarily read recent journal articles, and review current projects in the field. These resources are particularly beneficial because they are generally freely available on the web, easy to access, and most importantly, current in scope.

The next meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 3, in Manning 215. The group will read
and discuss the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative). More information and listserv information can be found at: http://www.unc.edu/~winget/HC/

If you have any questions, please contact Megan Winget at: winget@email.unc.edu
