Panel to discuss
"The Information Schools Movement"

“The Information Schools Movement: A Panel Discussion by the Deans,” a public forum on new directions in information and library science education, will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in the Pleasants Room of Wilson Library on the UNC at Chapel Hill campus.

“Schools of information and library science are leading the way in the creation of more broadly-based educational programs for the information professionals of the future,” said Dean Joanne Gard Marshall of UNC’s School of Information and Library Science. “Such professionals are working in many different kinds of information-intensive organizations, including libraries.”

A panel of deans from the top information and library science schools in the United States will discuss how their schools are contributing to this movement through their rapidly growing educational and research programs. The panel comprises Joanne Gard Marshall (moderator), UNC School of Information and Library Science; John King, University of Michigan School of Information; Mike Eisenberg, University of Washington Information School; David Fenske, Drexel University College of Information Science and Technology; Ron Larson, University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences; Jane Robbins, Florida State University School of Information Studies; John Unsworth, University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science; and Ray Von Dran, Syracuse University School of Information Studies.
