Enrollment Options

Multiple ways to register are available. To receive a personalized response with advice about the best method for you, please complete and submit the application form. One of the co-directors of the school library media programat UNC at Chapel Hill will respond with suggestions about the program, necessary coursework and how best to enroll. There is no charge or obligation for this service.

License-only Program. Applicants with a Master’s degree in library science may only need to take a few courses to satisfy requirements. If the courses are offered on-campus at UNC at Chapel Hill, enrollment is through http://fridaycenter.unc.edu/index.html The Friday Center/Continuing Education. Choose “Credit Programs for Part-time Students” and then select http://fridaycenter.unc.edu/cp/cs/index.htm “Part-Time Classroom Studies.” Information about registering for on-campus courses in provided there.

To register, you will need the course number, the section number, the name of the course, and the call number. For example, for the Fall 2006 semester,

For all professional courses like this one, permission of the instructor is required. Please contact the school library program director Sandra Hughes-Hassell (smhughes@email.unc.edu).

Certificate of Advanced Studies. Applicants may also apply to the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) for the Certificate of Advanced Studies degree program. This program requires 30 hours of coursework which may include up to six hours of transfer credit from a previously earned Master of Library Science degree. The other 24 hours would include the specialized library science courses, graduate education courses, and field experience in a school library media center.
