"In spite of the widespread recognition that organizational change is needed, the predominant forms of organization in research libraries appear to be resistant to fundamental change in their underlying structure. Survey results suggest that, while automation and other changing conditions have caused organizational adjustments within divisions and departments in a number of libraries, basic structural change on a library-wide scale remains relatively small."
