A Memorial Resolution Honoring Dr. Claudia J. Gollop

Whereas the American Library Association (ALA), the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA), and the library community lost a valued member and colleague on May 3, 2022, with the death of Dr. Claudia J. Gollop;

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop served as an associate dean and the Frances Carroll McColl Term Professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s School of Information and LibraryScience;

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop was awarded the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Award for Professional Contribution in 2018;

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop was awarded the Edward G. Holley for the Good of the Order Award from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science in 2012;

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop was awarded the Round Table for Ethnic and Minority Concerns (REMCo) Roadbuilders’ Award in Library Education from the North Carolina Library Association in 2009;

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop served on the SILS Alumni Inclusion and Diversity (SAID) Committee at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science;

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop earned her Master of Library Science degree from Columbia University, and her Doctorate in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh; and

Whereas Dr. Claudia J. Gollop, with such a career of dedication and service, and a job exceedingly well done, was an inspiration to her colleagues, co-workers, and friends;now, therefore, be it

Resolved, that the American Library Association (ALA), on behalf of its members:

  1. recognizes the significant contributions of Dr. Claudia J. Gollop over the course of her career and celebrates her life; and
  2. extends its sincerest condolences to her friends, family, and colleagues.
