Film materials can be challenging to archive. In this introductory workshop, participants will be exploring the specific characteristics and conditions of film materials, manual restoration, and how to use modern digital techniques on a 100-year-old movie (and younger ones!).

Paolo Tosini was the founder and director for five years of the Film Restoration Lab of the National Film Archive in Mexico. He has been a consultant on film restoration and archiving for several institutions in Mexico and Latin America, such as the National Archive in Dominican Republic, the City's Film Archive in Bogotá, Colombia. He has taught various film restoration theory and practice courses including a two semester certificate course at the National Film Archive in Mexico. In addition he taught at the Mexican National Sound Archive and at film archives of the UNAM (Autonomous University of Mexico City), Dominican Republic and Colombia.
