SILS master’s student Steve Wilcer will demonstrate how to use the equipment, including a DAT deck (Sony 75ES), cassette deck (Nakamichi MR-1), external CD drive (LG M-Disc Super Multi), Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 (used for converting the analog formats to digital).

The lab can be used by SILS faculty, staff, and students for personal and project needs, such as

  • Converting analog materials to digital
    • (avoid media container failure)
  • Migrating CD materials onto flash drives
  • Creating MD5 checksums for files
  • Editing both new and existing audio files
    • Cutting and splicing audio (remove errors, blemishes, or unwanted content)
    • Merging multiple audio tracks into one
