Please join us for a CRADLE talk by David McNeill and Ilin Misaras of the Global Training Initiative (GTI) at NC State University on "Global Leadership in VR" Friday, Feb. 9, in Manning Hall 208.
Please note: The VR module is typically played from a smartphone. Speakers will bring a few Samsung Gear VR headsets but do not have enough for the entire group. If folks have their own Gear VR headsets or a Google Cardboard viewer, they can bring those along with personal headphones. If they do not have that equipment, they can still watch the 360 VR video on their smartphone, or on the speakers' laptop. And, it's best if they download the "Wonda VR" app on their smartphone before the talk. Speakers will provide a QR code they can scan to access the VR module.
Abstract: Virtual reality provides unique opportunities for training related to leadership and management in a safe and engaging environment. "First Impressions" employs 360° video in VR so participants can dive into the minds of their global partners and engage in learning about culture on both a cognitive and emotional level. The VR module is used during in-persons workshops aimed at developing global management and leadership skills that utilize the principles of action learning, including two specific elements of conflict resolution: self-awareness and empathy skills. Participants learn to respond appropriately and effectively to a cross-cultural incident in a business situation.
