SILS has signed up with Microsoft Dev Tools for Teaching to provide select Microsoft software and training materials to SILS students at no cost. To be eligible, you must be a SILS degree student or currently enrolled in at least one SILS class. SILS degree students are automatically enrolled at the beginning of the academic year. Non-degree students currently enrolled in a SILS course must contact the SILS Help Desk for access. Dev Tools for Teaching is only licensed to students in the School of Information and Library Science.
By specifying the username as onyen@ad.unc.edu, SILS students can sign in at https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools. The Software tab shows the available titles and a search bar. Microsoft Office Standard is not included, but is available through the UNC ITRC at https://help.unc.edu. Microsoft Dev Tools includes the following applications:
- Visio Professional 2016 & 2019
- Visual Studio
- Project Professional 2016
- Microsoft Access 2016 & 2019
- Windows 10 and more!
**Note: Visio, Project and Access 2016/2019 can not be installed if Office 2016 is currently installed. They install properly alongside Office 365 which can be obtained from https://office.unc.edu. Note that the Office 365 software will expire when you leave the university.
