The Carolinas Chapter of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Chapter have been awarded the 2010 Chapter Event of the Year Award for the group's information design workshop. This 2.5 hour workshop on information visualization and design for academic posters and presentations was held on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on February 26, 2010. The event was led by then UNC doctoral candidate and designer Songphan Choemprayong. (Choemprayong has since graduated and moved on to a Knowledge Management Leadership & Research Fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Eskind Biomedical Library.)
This event, featuring a stunning slideshow, walked students through various aspects of designing and presenting information. Of greatest appeal to the judges was the large number of non-ASIS&T members who attended this event, providing good publicity for ASIS&T. The judges were also impressed with the level of collaboration between the student and regional chapter.
The Los Angeles Chapter also received an award for Chapter Event of the Year for the workshop, Collaborative Tools: Best Practices and New Trends.
Winners will receive their awards at the annual meeting held October 22 - 27, 2010 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Other winners of the ASIS&T awards include:
Chapter Member of the Year
Susan Fensore of the Northern Ohio Chapter
Chapter Publication of the Year
Central Ohio Chapter
Publication of the Year Award
