The School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for the position of Director of Development. The Director of Development will report directly to the Dean and will be a member of the Dean's Office in a senior management capacity. The Director of Development must demonstrate substantial prior experience in work related to the areas of responsibility described below. The Director of Development will serve as the Chief Development Officer of the School of Information and Library Science and will be responsible for developing and implementing a development strategy which meets the fundraising goals established by the Dean of the School of Information and Library Science.
A bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree is preferred.
The preferred candidate will have experience in the field of information and library science, along with exceptional written and oral communication skills, experience developing strategic fundraising planning within a similar organization (previous similar experience at a major research university is a plus), the capacity to anticipate both opportunities and problems and to develop initiatives suitable to both circumstances, willingness to work with people in an environment of rapidly changing information delivery systems, and a high energy level and the capacity to handle a heavy workload.
Prior experience in fund raising, with a record of closing individual gifts in the million dollar plus range and an employment history highlighted by increasing levels of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity and good judgment in dealing with staff, academic faculty members and the public will stand out among candidates.
