Mobile version of SILS Web site now available!

November 22, 2010

The School of Information and Library Science at UNC at Chapel Hill is happy to announce the launch of its mobile version of the SILS Web site. Visitors will now be able to browse all of the SILS Web site content using an interface tailored to their mobile device. The new mobile version allows students, faculty, staff, alumni and other visitors to find information about the School and its programs.

The new site offers instant access from most smartphones and provides easy access to news, events, programs, courses, contact information for the School and more.

When going to http://sils.unc.edu, users of handheld devices will be automatically redirected to: http://m.sils.unc.edu

The site significantly improves the user experience for all handheld devices by automatically detecting devices such as Android, iPhone and Blackberry.

“An increasing number of students, faculty, staff and visitors to SILS are using smartphones," said Aaron Brubaker, assistant director of Instructional Technology and the technical expert behind the SILS Web site. "The addition of our mobile version of the site allows people easy access to information on-the-go. This new site will be valuable to both visitors and the SILS community alike.”

Users who wish to use the full version found on the regular Web site are presented with that option at the bottom of the screen.
