Update (May 4, 2011): $915 raised for Habitat in just three hours! Thank you, deans, professors, staff and all who contributed!
Sponsored by the UNC School of Information and Library Science, "Dunk-a-Dean" and "Pie-a-Professor" will be the activities planned between noon and 3 p.m. on May 3rd to raise funds for the build. Pizza and soda will also be available for purchase with all proceeds going to the fund-raising effort.
The "Dunk-a-Dean" will feature Drs. Gary Marchionini, Steve Matson, Barbara Moran, Joanne Marshall and Barbara Wildemuth who have graciously agreed to be dunked for a price. Participants will be allowed one toss for $1, two tosses for $5 and three tosses for $10.
"Pie-a-Professor" is a pie toss (whipped cream on a paper plate) aimed at your favorite professor. SILS faculty members have offered to be your target for this worthy cause at just $3 a toss.
SILS and University Libraries joined the campus-wide "Build-A-Block" Habitat for Humanity of Orange County effort when our leaders learned there were UNC employees who had no home. As part of the build for a Library Community house, we not only are participating by hammering nails, sawing wood and actually building the house, we also must raise funds to cover the $35,000 needed for each home. At last count, we had raised around $15,000 with $20,000 still needed.
Since this is fund-raising for a home for one of our own UNC employees, we hope to raise more funds to complete the house so the family selected can move in. You can help by joining us in the Pit for an afternoon of stress relief and fun.
So, bring you best throwing arm and your dollars on May 3rd for a fun and worthy cause!
The dunk tank is donated by Interactive Playgrounds in Raleigh, N.C. The pizza is donated by Carmine's Ristorante and Pizzaria in Chapel Hill, N.C.
