Calling all tech workers and enthusiasts!
The Carolina Technology Consultants (CTC) has opened registration for the 2012 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill BarCamp Technology Conference on Friday May 18th from 8:00 a.m. until noon in Bondurant Hall. Barcamp is a fun-spirited unconference where people interested in a wide range of technologies come together to teach and learn.
Unfamiliar with the idea of an unconference?
During a traditional conference, attendees often find that their favorite parts were the times between sessions when people with similar interests could meet and discuss what is on their minds. The BarCamp format is designed to promote and facilitate this very type of interaction by providing a venue for timely user-generated content and sharing.
Rather than having a pre-set schedule of speakers and topics, attendees volunteer session topics at the start of the day. Those sessions are then scheduled into break-out rooms and attendees choose the sessions they are most interested in. Everyone is encouraged to present, co-present or help facilitate a session. It’s different from a regular conference – but it works!
BarCamp provides coffee, snacks, meeting space and projectors. All you need to do is bring your technology expertise and passion. Connections made during this half day event often spark longer-term collaborations. Participation is free and open to all area technologists.
This year’s UNC BarCamp is sponsored by the CTC, UNC at Chapel Hill Information Technology Services and the UNC at Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science. For more information and to register please visit http://barcamp.unc.edu.
