The proclamation follows:A Proclamation by the Board of Visitors of the School of Information and Library Science
The School of Information and Library Science (SILS) Board of Visitors thanks and commends Chancellor Holden Thorp for his vision and leadership of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus, and for his consistent support of the School. SILS and the campus will miss his innovative and compassionate perspective on working together to solve the world’s biggest problems. Holden Thorp’s devotion to creative research in all disciplines, and his dedication to ensuring affordability and access to all students, have inspired our minds and hearts and strengthened our souls. Chancellor Thorp’s appreciation for equitable access to information and interdisciplinary collaboration resonates with SILS’ core values. Chancellor Thorp has illuminated the Carolina Way of light and liberty (“Lux et Libertas”) and lives North Carolina’s motto to be rather than to seem (“Esse Quam Videri”). We proclaim Holden Thorp a friend of SILS and wish him and his family all good things in the years ahead.
