20th Annual Winter Stories Program for Children of All Ages

Dr. Brian SturmStorytellers and musicians will entertain children of all ages at the Friends of the Library’s 20th annual Winter Stories program on Dec. 6th in Wilson Library.

This year’s program, with the theme “Chilly and Charming,” will feature tales along with live instrumental music and sing-alongs.

In honor of the 20th anniversary, Jeffery Beam, poet and founder of Winter Stories in 1992 and Terry Rollins, professional storyteller and early performer for Winter Stories, will join Dr. Brian Sturm, associate professor at the UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS), SILS students Kate Barr, Marianne Bell and Emily Childress-Campbell, and UNC senior English major Hugh Koeze to charm listeners with folk tales from around the world, literary tales, poems, and songs.

SILS students Veronica Koven-Matasy, Brianna Leesch, Virginia Neisler, Peter Shirts, Emily Vardell and Nicole Lehotsky and her husband, Chris, will provide music.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a new or gently used children’s book to contribute to a book drive for the Book Fairy, an organization that donates children’s books to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at UNC Hospitals. There is also a book box located in the SILS Library for those who would like to contribute books.

We hope to see you at this annual holiday event that brings out the child in all of us!
