School of Information and Library Science (SILS) alumna, Dr. Carol Ritzen Kem (MSLS ’71), has begun a one year term as chair of the International Relations Round Table (IRRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) on July 2, 2013. With over 2,000 members IRRT is currently the largest round table in ALA.
The IRRT was created in 1949 by the ALA Council as the Round Table on Library Service Abroad. The mission of the group is “To promote interest in library issues and librarianship worldwide; to help coordinate international activities within the American Library Association, serving as a liaison between the International Relations Committee and those members of the Association interested in international relations; to develop programs and activities which further the international objectives of ALA; and to provide hospitality and information to visitors from abroad.”
Kem retired with emeritus status after a 36 year career at the Smathers Library at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fl. She is currently an Emeritus Professor in the Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research at U.F.
