The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science (SILS) and ibiblio.org are pleased to welcome Cristóbal Palmer (BSIS '07, MSIS '10) as the new technical director of ibiblio.org.
Palmer’s new position will mark his return to SILS, as he received his Bachelor in Information Science and Master's in Information Science here in 2007 and 2010, respectively. According to Paul Jones, Clinical Professor at SILS and director of ibiblio, Palmer will be responsible for keeping ibiblio alive and helping the project grow in interesting and innovative ways. He will also work directly with student employees, presenting them with challenges and support.
“One of the many delights of directing ibiblio.org is the opportunity to see our graduates grow and change,” said Jones. “Cris first came to ibiblio as an undergrad, then again as a SILS master's student, and now, after having been away, as our full-time employee.”
"I'm excited to be tackling the diverse challenges facing ibiblio's wide range of contributors, and I'm delighted to be working both with Paul and the talented students here in the lab," said Palmer.
Palmer comes to SILS from ITS where he worked as a senior systems administrator working on expanding Xen-based virtual infrastructure, co-developing Python-based applications and consolidating and standardizing Linux build practices. His past work experience includes working as a student assistant at DocSouth while a student at SILS, then as systems administrator with the Fire Dog Lake Company. He began his current position as ibiblio’s technical director on August 5.
