COYL Celebrates Banned Books Week with Trivia & Costume Contest

September 20, 2013

Banned Books Week ImageNext week is our favorite week of the year, Banned Books Week! From September 22-28, we celebrate our freedom to read and discuss the issue of censorship in libraries, schools and bookstores everywhere. (For more information, visit bannedbooksweek.org.)

The SILS Coalition of Youth Librarians (COYL) will be celebrating with a trivia contest! Each day next week, a new trivia question about banned or challenged books will appear in the SILS Library and on our bulletin board (on the second floor of Manning Hall). Simply answer the question on a handy dandy slip of paper and drop it in the box provided. We'll award prizes for correct answers at the end of the week.

Which leads us to the culmination of our celebration, the much-anticipated Banned Books Costume Contest. Be on the lookout for more information about this awesome event at the beginning of next week!

Finally, if you're really excited about Banned Books (and we know you are!) check out this event hosted by our friendly neighbors and alumna, Marian Fragola (MSLS '08) at North Carolina State University.

The contests are open to students, faculty, staff and alumni. Join in on the fun!

We're looking forward to getting your trivia answers! If you have any questions, don't be shy.

Love and fREADom,
Your COYL Board
