Alumna Lisa Wemett selected as host for 2013 Arbuthnot Lecture

January 22, 2013

Lisa WernettLisa C. Wemett (MSLS ’75) coordinated the application that was selected to host the 2013 Arbuthnot Honor Lecture in Rochester, New York. Wemett, a long-time volunteer with the Youth Services Section of the New York Library Association (YSS/NYLA), spearheaded the effort for YSS/NYLA to partner with the School of Education at Nazareth College to host Michael Morpurgo in May.

Morpurgo, author of War Horse and over 100 other titles for young readers, was chosen by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) of the American Library Association to deliver the May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture.  As a member of the YSS/NYLA Spring Conference Planning Committee, Wemett worked with local and statewide groups and academic institutions to develop a line-up of events during Children’s Book Week that will lead off with the Arbuthnot Lecture on Thursday, May 16, 2013.

After more than 30 years as a public librarian, Wemett retired as the assistant director of the Webster (NY) Public Library in 2009.  For more information on the Arbuthnot Lecture, click HERE.
