The School of Information and Library Science (SILS) welcomes Tiffany Harris as administrative office support in the School's Administrative Offices effective Jan. 22, 2013.
Harris will assist with a number of office responsibilities including welcoming visitors and interacting with faculty, students and alumni while working closely with administrative areas such as Finance, Student Services, Communications and Development.
"I am so pleased that Tiffany agreed to become a member of the SILS team," said Tammy Cox, assistant dean for administration at SILS. "Her dynamic personality and can-do attitude will enhance our efforts to serve those within the school as well as those outside of SILS."
Recently serving as a teaching assistant at Saint Thomas More Catholic School, Harris has experience assisting in the classroom, working with children to achieve their educational needs. In her former position, she worked closely with the lead teachers, prepared materials for specific lessons and maintained student files. She also worked for eight years at the UNC at Chapel Hill Department of Biomedical Engineering where she was a student services administrator - and also recipient of the “Staff Member of the Year” award. In her role there, she provided counseling to students and prospective students on the application process and assisted with student registration, transfer of credits and graduation requirements. She was responsible for tuition remission as well as maintaining student records, among other duties.
Harris completed a number of training workshops at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and attended Alamance Community College. In addition to the “Staff Member of the Year Award,” she is the recipient of the “Star Heels Award” and the “Employee Appreciation Award” presented by the university.
