The Board of Trustees of the Conyers-Rockdale Library System has appointed Ben Carter (MSLS '06), interim director and alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Information and Library Science (SILS), as director of the Library System during their meeting on Tuesday, March 25.
“I am very excited to serve as director for the library and look forward to continuing to serve our community,” said Carter.
Carter has served as interim director since June 2013. He originally came to the Library as head of the Youth Services department in 2006; he worked for the Gwinnett Public Library System for five years before returning to Conyers as assistant director for Public Services in September 2012.
In his job as assistant director, he coordinated and supervised the four public service departments of the library. As director, Carter will work with the Board of Trustees on strategic development and community partnerships while ensuring that the Nancy Guinn Memorial Library continues to serve as a hub of learning, leisure and support for the community.
A native of Walton County, Carter has degrees from the two oldest state universities in the U.S. - the University of Georgia and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He recently served on the SILS Alumni Association Executive Board as director of Communications.
