SILS Alumnus Robert Coleman Gibbs Dies at 84

Robert Coleman Gibbs (MSLS ’59) passed away April 28, 2015, at the age of 84. Born August 27, 1930, in Bath, N.C., Gibbs served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, completed his bachelor's degree at Duke University, and earned his master’s degree in library science from the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Gibbs held positions at The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Florida libraries. He retired as the Associate University Librarian at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church of Raleigh and had been a volunteer at the Triangle Literacy Council of Wake County.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean Gibbs, and his sons Robert Lane Gibbs of Alexandria, Va., and John Coleman Gibbs of Sonoma, Calif.
