Release date:

April 21, 2015

Justin Stidham, a UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduate who has worked in the School of Information and Library Science (SILS) Library for the last three years, has been selected to receive the 2014-15 Student Employee Appreciation Award from the Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB). Stidham was one of only four students from across campus chosen for the honor. Click here to read profiles of the other recipients.

SLAB created the award as a way to recognize exemplary undergraduate employees on the basis of excellent customer service, leadership in the workplace, integrity, attitude, work ethic, initiative, or passion. Each winner receives $500 and a recognition certificate.

Stidham, a junior studying political science and dramatic arts with plans to attend law school, said he has enjoyed his time at the SILS Library.

“It’s a great place to work,” he said. “It has a unique feel, especially because of the children’s collection. We get a whole different set of patrons because of that section. All the people here are great to work with, too. That’s why I keep coming back.”

Rebecca Vargha, director of the SILS Library, said Stidham was a highly-skilled employee and demonstrated natural leadership abilities both in the library and through his work in student theater productions.

“With his wonderful attitude and leadership skills he is exactly the type of team member who makes the show or our library run very well,” Vargha said.
