A selection committee that includes SILS Dean Gary Marchionini, Assistant Professor Mohammad Hossein Jarrahi (2015 recipient of the award), and ILSSA President Natalia Lopez will judge the nominations. Judging criteria include:

- Classroom instruction
- Mentoring
