Sayan Chakraborty (MSIS '06) to Deliver Spring 2023 Alumni Lecture

The UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS) will host the final Alumni Lecture of the Spring 2023 semester with Sayan Chakraborty (MSIS '06), Co-founder and Chief Innovation & Strategy Officer for Optimized Sciences, on Thursday, March 30 at 2:30 p.m. ET. in Manning Hall Room 01. The event is free and open to the public. 

Lecture Title:  Enabling a green future: information professions in the age of sustainability, green economy, and green energy

Abstract: Our interconnected world is confronting global challenges that are testing the limits of human capabilities and progress. Sustainable social and economic progress requires achieving just and equitable societies that balances people, planet, peace, partnership, and prosperity. One of the  foundations of modern societies- our energy systems are confronting fundamental unprecedented global social and technological change on the path to sustainable net-zero full electrification. The information professions bring unique human-oriented perspectives to addressing these challenges. The talk will highlight some of the opportunities for information professionals in the sustainability, green economy, and green energy domains that the speaker has identified and experienced.

Bio: Sayan Chakraborty (SILS MSIS 2006) is the Co-founder and Chief Innovation & Strategy Officer for Optimized Sciences. A startup focused on providing breakthrough innovations and digital transformation solutions to enable sustainable energy transition. He is also an advisor to several startups and entrepreneurs in the cyclical economy and sustainability domains. He is a technology strategy and enterprise architect with over 15 years technology consulting and professional services experience for utilities and manufacturing clients across the globe. Sayan is based out of The Netherlands and enjoys traveling to experience different cultures, hiking, and camping when his schedule allows.
