Happy New Year!

It’s always a thrill to feel the energy of students returning to campus for a new academic year! Here are some updates on things that happened over the summer.

Vibrant and somewhat abstract painting of a face and a variety of shapesLobby’s New Look

The first big change you’ll probably notice is the new mural in the lobby by Charlotte artist Georgie Nakima. This vibrant work was inspired by information and library science. Find her @gardenofjourney to see more of her incredible work.

SILS Student Services on Canvas

The Canvas site for SILS Student Services has a new look, thanks to the work of SILS intern Caden Gregorio. This site is your space for all official SILS news and resources. Find everything related to registration, advising, curriculum, and much more. We encourage you to log in right away to become familiar with the site.

SILS Students Teams Channel

While Canvas is your source of official SILS info, the Teams site is your source for all the cocurricular information that will enrich your experience here. The site should help reduce the number of list-serv emails flooding your inbox and give you control over what you see and when. You can also use the chats to connect with other SILS students. Check out the Guide to the Teams Channel at the top of the site for helpful tips!

New Faculty

Fei Yu joined SILS as an assistant professor. She previously worked at SILS as an adjunct professor. Her academic and research background spans multiple disciplines, including library and information science, biomedical and health informatics, nursing, and translational science.

In addition, Diane Kelly is returning to SILS as the new Wilson Distinguished Professor. She was most recently the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Tennessee Knoxville.

Help us make them feel welcome!

Posters & Flyers

Every year, flyers and posters chip away at the paint in Manning Hall. We need your help reducing the wear and tear to keep Manning looking as fresh as possible.

  • Please use only blue, painter’s tape to hang items on the wall or utilize one of the many bulletin boards in the building.
  • If you put something up, please remove it when the event or activity is over.

Remember, all the faculty and staff around you are here to help you. Never hesitate to reach out. We hope you have a fantastic year!
