What was your educational and professional background before coming to SILS?
I started working in small computer firms and being in the periphery of technology for years in roles like help desk, data entry, and robotics. I attended some community college and had some work experience without the context of SILS or understanding some of the technologies I was implementing.
How has your career progressed since you graduated SILS?
After graduation, I was able to get a job in a career field that had been my end goal and was able to have great success in implementing my experience and knowledge to help secure information and users the world over.
In your current employment, what are your job duties and responsibilities?
As a security engineer I am the crossover point for many teams. I work with engineering teams who are implementing new technology to ensure their solutions are secured and up to regulations. Simultaneously I work with our other security teams to build and deploy tools to support the operation of incident response and audit teams. My responsibility is mostly in consulting with partner teams to secure new projects and initiatives as well as performing threat models and analyzing new technologies to implement them in a secure and expedient manner.
What projects have gotten you most excited and/or what accomplishments have made you the proudest?
SILS gave me a wider understanding of the information technology landscape and the ability to understand the underpinnings of the technology, as well as the social issues of users and society. Being able to put my work into context combined with a deeper technical understanding of topics was a great value to me professionally.
