What was your educational and professional background before coming to SILS?

After graduation from UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in the 1980s, I moved to California where I was a risk manager for an insurance company for many years. I served two years in the U.S. Peace Corps from 1992 to 1994. I worked in information technology for a few years before beginning my graduate work at SILS.

How has your career progressed since you graduated SILS?

I graduated in 2007. I transferred from the libraries at UNC to the ITS Information Security Office in 2006 as an information security analyst. In 2012, I was promoted to IT Manager an in 2013 to Chief Information Security Officer. I became Chief Information Security Officer for the UNC System in 2019.

What were some of your best experiences at SILS?

Working in groups and presenting to groups.

What inspires or motivates you?

Helping people reach their full potential.
