What was your educational and professional background before coming to SILS?
My background is in English literature, especially British literature and print culture.
In your current employment, what are your job duties and responsibilities?
I am a doctoral student in the PhD program in the Dept of English at UW. I teach English courses and am working on research focusing on Victorian print culture, Shakespeare studies, and digital humanities.
What were some of your best experiences at SILS??
The coursework was surprisingly intellectually stimulating (only surprising because I knew nothing about LIS before coming to SILS), the faculty were engaging and supportive, and the community of students were diverse and a whole lot of fun.
How did your time at SILS prepare you for the future?
Since SILS, I worked in the tech business (IBM and Microsoft) before returning to academia. Surprisingly, what I learned at SILS has been useful across these quite different professional experiences. SILS gave me focus and a skill set that is unusual in my cohort.
