WISE

WISE COURSES:

Web-based Information Science Education (WISE) is a unique and groundbreaking opportunity for students to take online elective Library and Information Science accredited courses from other universities. Leading schools in the information field have gone outside the classroom to extend their reach to broaden the online educational opportunities for students. The WISE consortium uses advanced online technology as a means to enrich education and foster relationships among students, faculty and universities.

Students have the opportunity to access distance education courses through WISE member schools that have met the quality bar in online education. WISE students have increased access to special topics and electives as compared to non-WISE schools. For example, a student may access courses from a wider base of faculty and research than may be normally available within their home school. A professional who is working on his or her degree will have greater flexibility in scheduling and have a multitude of options when considering specialized topics. The WISE student will have the ability to select from a wide array of online courses, regardless of their location, and take courses with faculty who are highly regarded in their area of expertise.

Spring 2020 WISE Priority Enrollment: TBA

Thank you for your interest in taking a WISE course. Enrolling is a two-step process.

Step 1: You must first request enrollment via the WISE website.
Enter username: uncstudent and password: unc-sils in the appropriate boxes. Select the term you are interested in and view the course offerings for that term. Click on View Details for more information on a course.  Select the course you are interested in taking. Wait for notification from WISE.

Step 2: After WISE notification, you will register for the course through the UNC Connect Carolina system, by registering for the INLS course number. Final grades are submitted to that course number at the end of the term. Also, remember start and end dates vary among the WISE schools, so grades may be issued on different dates (sometime much later) than those issued for UNC courses. This can be very important if you are graduating in this term and need the course credits from a WISE course. Please be sure to check the start and end dates.
