Using Design Thinking to Improve Patient Safety, Wellbeing, and Quality of Care

Healthcare providers work across and interact with various systems of the hospital, collaborating with various specialties while trying to provide high-quality and safe care to patients while managing their own well-being. Research shows that healthcare providers report burnout rates above the overall national average and thus, it is important to understand the key factors contributing to healthcare providers’ burnout and identify key priorities for improving hospitalists’ workplace. The objective of this talk is to illustrate how we use the Contextual Design (CD) methodology to analyze and design hospital systems to improve quality, safety, and well-being.

Talk #2 by Janey Barnes, PhD

Our Health: Celebrate Today. Back to Work Tomorrow.

On World Usability Day let’s take time to celebrate accomplishments where user research and design contributed to positive outcomes throughout healthcare. Then…let’s roll up our sleeves and get back to work. During the talk, I’ll highlight user research and design contributions and talk about opportunities for continued focus.
