SILS Associate Professor Lukasz Mazur Awarded 2023 IISE Fellow Award

In March, Lukasz Mazur, an associate professor at the UNC School of Information and Library Science and the UNC School of Medicine, was awarded the 2023 IISE Fellow Award.

The Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE), which distributes the IISE Fellow Award annually, is an international, nonprofit association that provides leadership for the application, education, training, research, and development of industrial and systems engineering.Lukasz Mazur

The IISE Fellow Award recognizes outstanding leaders of the profession who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial and systems engineering. A fellow is the highest classification of IISE membership.

“I’m most grateful and humbled for this recognition,” Mazur said. “This wouldn’t be possible without my long-time mentor Dr. Lawrence Marks and great collaborators at the UNC School of Medicine, SILS and the Carolina Health Informatics Program.”

Mazur will accept the award at the IISE Annual Conference in New Orleans in May.

Mazur’s research interests include healthcare engineering management as it pertains to continuous quality and patient safety efforts in healthcare and human factor engineering with a focus on workload and individual performance during health care providers’ interactions with health information technology.
