Zeynep Tufekci weighs in on the Web’s 30th Anniversary

UNC School of Information and Library Science (SILS) Associate Professor Zeynep Tufekci was one of the featured speakers at the 30th Anniversary of the World Wide Web at CERN in Switzerland.

CERN hosted the celebration on March 12 in partnership with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the World Wide Web Foundation. Tufekci joined Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Robert Cailliau, and other leading experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities of innovative technologies in the past, present, and future.

Tufekci also talked with the Marketplace Tech podcast about the occasion. She said that the web is at a turning point.

“It was built for a very different kind of vision. It was built for a small network,” she said. “The next 30 years will be about: How do we adjust course so we can keep all the magic but also deal with the real challenges of having this global kind of connectivity?”
